About This Place

Located in the heart of Newport News, VA, Saisaki Asian Bistro & Sushi Bar is a vibrant culinary gem that expertly fuses Chinese, Japanese, and sushi delicacies under one roof. This Asian restaurant delivers an inviting atmosphere, perfect for everything from casual nights out with friends to intimate dining experiences where the buzz of conversation and clatter of chopsticks create an exciting backdrop to your meal.

The menu at Saisaki is a celebration of bold flavors and fresh ingredients, thoughtfully curated to please every palate. Signature dishes like the Angry Dragon Roll and Szechuan Crispy Shredded Dried Beef showcase the kitchen’s adeptness at blending robust spices with perfect textures. Sushi enthusiasts will delight in expertly crafted rolls such as the classic California Roll, the colorful Rainbow Roll, and the visually stunning Sushi Tower, which layers spicy crab, tuna, salmon, and avocado into a delectable tower crowned with caviar and a spicy sauce. For those seeking lighter fare, the Avocado Salad and the refined Pepper Tuna Tataki offer fresh, palate-cleansing options.

Beginners and sushi aficionados alike will appreciate the appetizer selection from the sushi bar, including the innovative Tuna Dumpling Crunchy, a spicy king crab wrapped in delicate tuna, and the Green Mussel, grilled with spicy mayo and topped with caviar — each bite bursting with umami and subtle heat. The Sashimi Jalapeño, featuring thinly sliced salmon, tuna, and yellowtail enlivened by a jalapeño kick, exemplifies the kitchen’s commitment to vibrant, layered tastes.

Entrees like the Japanese Teriyaki Bento, Hibachi Chicken and Steak, and Pad Thai Noodles embrace traditional Asian flavors while offering comforting, hearty options. The Sweet and Sour Chicken delivers nostalgic familiarity with a perfect balance of tang and sweetness. Pair your meal with their carefully selected beverage menu, which includes popular Asian imports like Sapporo and Kirin Ichiban, or a smooth Mai Tai for a tropical twist.

Diners often praise Saisaki’s appetite-rousing combination of authenticity and affordability. Michael Vernon Davis raved about the “off the chart” food and attentive service, noting the sushi chef’s hands-on approach that brought a sense of connection to each dish. Sofia L.’s enthusiastic recommendation of the Dragon Roll and their Cappuccino Martini showcases how Saisaki balances traditional sushi fare with inventive cocktails, creating a well-rounded experience.

While the atmosphere can be lively and, at times, a bit loud—as Felicitas “Felicity” Squires pointed out—the warmth of the staff shines through, ensuring that any slower moments in service feel personable rather than frustrating. The local vibe adds a comforting familiarity, as Omar Clinton’s review hints, making you feel part of a community gathering spot rather than just another restaurant visit.

Whether you’re a Newport News resident or just passing through, Saisaki Asian Bistro & Sushi Bar offers an impressive journey through Asian cuisine with distinct flavors that linger delightfully on the palate. It’s a place where expertly prepared sushi meets traditional Chinese dishes in a lively ambiance that invites you to savor every bite and come back for more.

This page was next to my hotel. The first night I had the most awesome soup, chicken wings, and sushi roll. The sushi didn't have much flair and I had to ask for chopsticks and soy sauce she never gave me so I had to take from another table. The second night was horrible I had the grilled salmon and i specifically asked for light sauce which definitely wasn't salmon and it came out covered in sauce and it was ice cold. It took forever for waiter to come back but he took it to the back and I guess they washed the fish off and microwaved the plate because the broccoli was way overcooked and brown and the fish was hard as a rock....I won't return. Wait..... the reisling was on point! And the soup was good as well. Not like the first night but tasty.

I love this place because the food is always consistent, it’s very much a local spot to me and can easily meet my friends there or run into them. Highly recommend their Dragon roll and the Cappuccino Martini.

My aunt took me here and I loved it! She’s also very picky so the fact that she loved it says a lot also. Sushi was delicious and everything was reasonably priced… Definitely coming back.

Food was off the chart! We sat at the sushi bar itself. Service was phenomenal. Our server and bus staff checked on us continuously. Our chef, right there at the bar, mind you, started us off with a tasty sampler. We had delicious appetizers, followed by amazing main courses. The atmosphere was fine, as I recall. Nothing remarkable. If anything, it didn't detract us from our food. Well done!

My husband and I was in the mood for some sushi and it was pretty good, very good honestly. We also ordered the egg rolls which were fresh. He ordered the egg drop soup which he enjoyed and I ordered the hot and sour soup, not my favorite. If we’re in the mood for sushi we will keep this place in mind
